Temple of Heaven

The Temple of Heaven Park, formerly known as the "Heaven and Earth Temple", is located at No. 7, Dongli, Tiantan Nei, Dongcheng District, Beijing. It was first built in the 18th year of the Yongle reign of the Ming Dynasty (1420), and was renamed as the "Temple of Heaven" in the 9th year of the Jiajing reign of the Ming Dynasty (1530). It is the venue for the emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties to "worship the heaven" and "pray for the valley", with a total area of 273 hectares. It is the largest existing ancient sacrificial architectural complex in China. On January 1, 1918, it was opened to the public as the Temple of Heaven Park.
