Tiger Leaping Gorge

Tiger Leaping Gorge (Tiger Leaping Gorge Natural Scenic Area), located in Tiger Leaping Gorge Town, Shangri-La City, Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, is divided into three sections: Upper Tiger Leaping, Middle Tiger Leaping, and Lower Tiger Leaping. It is one of the deepest gorges in China.

The south bank of the Tiger Leaping Gorge Scenic Area is the Yulong Snow Mountain, with its main peak at an altitude of 5596 meters, and the north bank is the Haba Snow Mountain at an altitude of 5396 meters. Due to the tight constraints of the high mountains on both banks, the river flows into the gorge with a width of only over 50 meters, and the narrowest point is where the tiger and leopard can jump over, hence the name Tiger Leaping Gorge. The canyon is 80 kilometers away from the urban area of Lijiang City. It is located at the upstream of the Jinsha River, with a total length of 17 kilometers, a detour road of 25 kilometers, and a vertical elevation difference of more than 3900 meters. It is one of the deepest canyons in the world.
